Before the pandemic, I remember a particular day where I woke up, checked my phone, scrolled through Instagram and the first thing that caught my eye was 5 Seconds of Summer announcing their No Shame Tour. I was so excited! I looked at the post again and I was ECSTATIC. My newest favorite band was going to open for them in the U.S. leg of the tour. This band is none other than The Band Camino. I bought tickets right away.
The Band Camino is an alternative pop/rock band comprised of members Jeffery Jordan (lead singer, guitar), Spencer Stewart (vocals, guitar), and Garrison Burgess (drums). The three of them met as music students at the University of Memphis and the band was officially formed in 2015. In just a few short years they built a loyal fan base with their independently released EPs, My Thoughts on You in 2016 and Heaven in 2017. In 2018, Taylor Swift gave them and their song "Berenstein" a shout out in her Spotify playlist. By 2019, they were signed to Elektra Records.
Today, The Band Camino is getting ready to debut their first full length album later this year. They recently released two singles, "Roses" and "1 Last Cigarette."
Although it changes everyday, right now, my favorite is "Roses." The song looks back on the challenges the world has endured this past year and serves as a reminder to stop and appreciate the smaller things. Stop and smell the roses. It's the the type of song that makes you want to get up and dance by yourself in your room like no one is watching.
"This song is about finding the moment. We've built our band off of sadder songs that mourn the past and long for the future. 'Roses' is a pep talk - a reminder to the person in the mirror that we can choose to at least try to see the good and make an attempt to create a brighter world for ourselves and others. So stop and smell the f*cking roses," said Jordan about "Roses."
The music video sees the band members working at a flower shop where their customers keep requesting dull, dead flowers. Instead, the band brings out the bright and colorful flowers but the customers aren't satisfied. They have their own dance party/concert in the middle of the shop until the manager walks in. Probably doesn't end well but at least they had fun!
Unfortunately, as we know, the pandemic halted all live music. I don't know when I will be able to see them live, but for now I will have this video on repeat!
Watch the video below and tell me what you think!
